EVERLY 18 MONTHS
February 19, 2016 • MOTHERHOOD
Age: 18 months?! Someone pinch me. Where did the time go?
Stats: 26.7 lbs (89th percentile) and 32.5 inches long (72nd percentile).
Clothes: In between size 18-24 months and 2T's depending on the fit and style. I haven't noticed a particular piece of clothing or style she loves the most. She's pretty agreeable with whatever I put on her. She is also in a size 5 shoe. But she loves her Hunter rain boots. She is constantly wearing them. Even when we are just lounging around the apartment she asks us to put them on her. I told Chad the other day we have got to get her another pair when she outgrows these. They are by far her favorite. She also loves wearing her winter hats. Or at least pulling them off her head and trying to put it back on again, over and over. She loves sunglasses, or any kind of glasses. She also loves bows. I have a glass jar of them displayed on her dresser and every time she sees them she pats her head saying bow over and over.

Favorite Foods: Waffles, pancakes, strawberries, watermelon, bananas, apples, goldfish and toast. Carbs and fruit, my kind of diet. Most of the time I can get her to eat chicken pretty well. She'll eat broccoli every now and then. Daycare says she loves burgoo. But we've never tried it at home. They also swear she eats carrots. Some food she eats at daycare I can't get her to eat at home. She drinks out of a regular cup really well now, as long as I'm the one controlling the cup. The other day I was washing dishes and suddenly felt something splash down my leg. Everly had grabbed my full cup of diet coke out of the cup holder in the living room, carried it to the kitchen and dumped it all over her face. I was at least grateful she made it to the kitchen without spilling it. When she's hungry or thirsty she'll come to us in the living room, do the sign language for more, and point to the kitchen saying more, "moe." She's such a scavenger too. Anytime Chad or I bring a snack or a plate of something different to the living room she eye balls us and always requests a bite, or a "bie."
Favorite Words: Her vocabulary is really beginning to pick up. She was a chatter box for months going on and on in her own little language. But within the last few weeks we've noticed her trying hard to pronounce real words. Her most common word is "Momma" of course. She points to her head now and says "bow." Uh-oh, bye, baby, and what's that? Max, Nana, and Daddy is "da". She tries to say milk but it usually comes out "muh". She recently started saying please and thank you and it melts my heart. We've had so much snow recently that she's begun to pick up on that word as well.
Favorite Activities: Where do I begin? This girl is non-stop. She loves to color, read books, play with her blocks, and pull everything in and out of the kitchen cabinets. She loves to dance and jump around while I workout in front of the TV. She loves to climb the couch and sit in the middle on the arm rest/cup holder. Bath time is a favorite of hers as well. It's usually a fight to get her out.
Favorite Things: My purse. As soon as she swings it across her shoulder she holds her arm up, yells BYE! while she's waving and walks across the room. She also loves to dig for my lipstick. So I have to keep a close eye on that. She loves my make-up. I've only had to clean the carpet four times since we moved in two months ago. She sits next to me every morning watching me get ready for work. Shoes. Anyone's shoes. She loves picking shoes up off the floor and trying to put them on everyone's feet. And her most recent favorite is her baby doll.
Signature Moves: Dancing, waving and saying "Hi-eeee" to every stranger who walks by. Pointing to Daddy and telling him to stop it, "top it" and "nnnnnnno" when he aggravates her. When she's concentrating real hard she always points her big toe up. I'm always bugging her to put it back down. She loves to hold my phone up when she gets the camera activated and say "cheese". She must have learned that from daycare. I swear I'm not a selfie taker.
Mom's Proudest Moment: Scrolling through my phone over top of my sleeping toddler sitting in my lap and dropping it right on her face.
Dad's Proudest Moment: This was a few months ago now, but I have to document this. Chad left the back door open one morning when he let our dog out. A few minutes later he realized Max had not come in yet. When he went out to the back yard to find him he found our baby walking around the side of the house crying and freezing cold. Ooooooh Momma was pissed.
Other Milestones: We are officially going on two weeks with no paci! We accidentally put her to bed one night without a paci and didn't realize it until I made it back to the living room and saw it sitting on the couch. She went right to sleep without it. We decided to give it another shot the next night and she didn't seem to miss it at all. The third day we sent her to daycare without a paci and they said she napped and acted just fine the entire day. This is big stuff you guys! I swear this baby has been too easy. We are in trouble with number two.
We love you Everly Morgan! You have brought more light and happiness into our lives in the last 18 months than we ever knew possible.

VALENTINE'S DAY
February 10, 2016 • HOLIDAYS, MOTHERHOOD
With Valentine's Day this weekend I thought it would be fun to share some gift/date ideas Chad and I have used in the past. I am proud of the fact that Chad and I always take the time to make each other feel special, especially around the holidays. Chad fixes me breakfast almost every single morning. We send each other the occasional love text. (I received this gem from Chad three years ago and still have it saved to my phone.)
We always tell each other how much we love each other every single time we leave or hang up the phone. Anything we can do to make each other's lives easier and days better we try to do. But holidays are typically over the top. And I love it.
1) One year I sent Chad on a mini scavenger hunt. I left a note on the windshield of his car for him to find as soon as he got off work. I scheduled a secret appointment for him to have a massage. The note told him how hard of a worker he was and how much I appreciated all he did. I only gave him an address and said to head there immediately. While he was getting his surprise massage I left him a little present with a note in the seat of his car telling him to head home, he will find his next surprise under his pillow. Earlier I had placed a scratch off under his pillow with a note "Are you feelin' lucky? Go look in the closet." No I didn't pop out wearing lingerie, although that's probably what Chad was hoping for. Inside the closet he found an outfit I had laid out for him with a note asking him to meet me at our favorite restaurant, The Miller House, and that I would be waiting for him. I arrived extra early so I could beat him there and be waiting at the table when he arrived.
2) Another year I enlisted the help of several family members and friends. I gave ten different friends a gift to bring to Chad at work every hour. They all ranged in value. Many gifts were some sort of candy or a movie. I did give him one big gift he had been wanting for a while. But every hour on the hour a new person walked into his office with a gift and note I had asked them to bring. He loved the anticipation of finding out who was coming to see him next. It was kind of like receiving two gifts in one- a visit from a friend and a wrapped present.
3) Last year we decided to have a chill night with dinner and our new baby. Chad picked up both me and Everly to take us to our usual special occasion spot, The Miller House. But he decided to make it a little extra special and take all the girls in his life out. We met both our mothers there. When we arrived we were surprised with four bouquets of flowers waiting at our table. One for each of us girls. It was the sweetest thing.
4) One of my favorite ideas was a gift for all five senses. For taste I bought him a cake pop bouquet from one of our favorite local bakeries in town, Dalisha's Desserts. Hearing was represented by a new set of headphones. Smell was a fresh bottle of cologne. For sight and touch... Well... I'll let you all figure those out.
5) This year we may just throw on our pajamas and head to Chad's favorite- breakfast for dinner at Waffle House. Our local Waffle House closed a few years ago. So a mini road trip will be required. Even better. If we can get Nana to babysit it will be a special treat to drive down the road without the sound of Frozen playing on the DVD player or the cries that usually come with an overly tired baby who doesn't like to be strapped down. A nice excuse to just sit in peace and hold hands.
Many people blow off this holiday. Regardless of what you do this Valentine's Day, never skip an opportunity to make your significant other feel special. Don't let things get stale. I love that after twelve years of dating my husband he still makes me feel like I'm his best friend. He makes me feel loved and always keeps things exciting and new.

WEEKEND RECAP
February 9, 2016 • MOTHERHOOD
We had a beautiful weekend with sunshine and temperatures in the upper 50's. So we headed downtown to let the toddler run free and soak it up. I completely forgot how fun slides were until I chased Everly down at least seven of them. But growing up I was always a monkey bars and swings kind of girl. Turns out swings aren't exactly Everly's cup of tea. She'll learn soon enough. Either way the fresh air was good for all of us.
Daddy throwing her in the air and upside down was all fun and games until she refused to put her feet down and fell forward on her little head. By Monday she went to school looking like she had been through a war zone with so many bumps and bruises. Nana's marble coffee table gets her every time too. Welcome to toddlerhood I guess. Evidence of a good weekend? There will be many more to come I'm sure.
We followed the park with our usual ice cream run. Something about sunshine, even in 50 degrees, makes Daddy crave sweets every time. Everly still isn't a fan. She was perfectly happy just eating the strawberries off the top.
We were hopeful the warm weather was here to stay. But alas, it is 21 degrees in Kentucky today and will stay that way all week. Typical Kentucky weather. In other news, Everly has now learned to say please "pees" and it is the absolute sweetest thing ever. She officially gets whatever she wants if she follows it with a "pees".
